What They Don't Tell You About Studying in the UK: A Nepali Student’s Reality Check

Things You Should Know Before Thinking of Applying to Study in the UK

The Real Cost: Tuition Fees & CAS Deposits

Your tuition fee depends heavily on your English proficiency score and whether your university is inside or outside London. Generally, the better your English qualification, the lower your starting fees after scholarships. Standard Bachelor’s degrees are 3 years (including International Year One), while Foundation paths (International Year Zero) take 4 years.

Pathway Options: If you have a 'C' in Grade-XII English, pathway courses are available to help you qualify, though they extend duration and total cost.

Postgraduate (Master's) Options & Structural Alternatives:

    • No English Test Option: Fees start from £11,210 both inside and outside London if you qualify without an English Proficiency Test (EPT).
    • The Perks Package: A specific university option offers a fee of £11,950 (after scholarship) and includes 3 months of free accommodation and gym access.
    • Extended/Enhanced Masters: Pathway programs that extend your master's duration start at £15,300.
    • Master's with a Guaranteed Placement Year: Costs £16,750. We strongly recommend this option because you earn money legally on a student visa during the placement year without wasting your Graduate Route timeline.

Upfront Paperwork & The English Waiver Trick

Gather your exact documents comprehensively from the start:

The English Language Waiver: Many universities offer an English waiver based on your Grade-XII English marks. These typically start at a 'B' mark, though a few accept a 'C+'. Always confirm with the university.

Testing Strategy: We suggest doing the Duolingo English Test (DET) if your chosen university accepts it (most UK universities do). The test is more affordable, provides faster results, and scoring the standard target of 105 is considered easier by many students compared to IELTS.

The 'Hidden' Upfront Visa & Medical Costs

These are immediate out-wof-pocket expenses paid to governments and processing clinics before departure:

Strict Compliance Laws & Regulations

You must thoroughly research and follow all active rules to protect your student visa status:

Post-Study Work Realities

Students become eligible for the Graduate Route Visa after successfully completing their course. However, note that if you apply after January 2027, the Graduate Route will be limited to 18 months. This makes our recommendation for a Master's with a placement year even more critical to maximize your career timeline.
